what to expect when you commission A CHAOTIC FURSUIT

Every fursuit’s build is different, and every fursuit maker’s commission process is different. It’s important to know what to expect when you commission somebody! Below details what you can expect when you work with Chaoticreations!

Fursuit Features and Build

Head

  • My heads are HALF-LINED. The front and back half of the head is lined, but the neck itself is not. I personally do not line my necks. Lined necks can be requested at an additional cost. I use a combination of scuba neoprene and ProCool sports mesh for lining.

  • As standard, my fursuit heads have a zipper closure and are glasses-friendly. My heads are also adjustable as standard with a velcro strap.

  • I use hand-carved foam bases only! I do not use TPU, resin, 3D printed or expanding foam bases. I am not your maker if those are what you are looking for!

Handpaws

  • My handpaws are HALF-LINED. The backs of the hands are lined to keep stuffing in place. I do not fully line handpaws.

  • Large padded handpaws may be fully lined, however, depending on their size.

  • My handpaws don’t have finger or wrist escapes by default but can be requested!

Tails

  • My tails mount onto the body with an invisible belt loop and are stuffed with polyfil as default.

Bodysuits

  • Digitigrade bodysuits have feetpaws that are attached via zippers. Plantigrade bodysuits have detached feetpaws unless requested otherwise

  • Padding is attached to the bodysuit fur itself, unless separate padding pillows are requested. Stuffing can be added and removed via zippers in the padding lining.

  • Padding lining/pillows are made with ProCool sports mesh.

  • Feet have built-in slip-on shoes. You will be required to either provide some yourself or provide your shoe size for me to supply them for you.

Signs of Handcraftmanship

My fursuits are 100% handmade products, which means that there will be signs of handcraftmanship in my work. These are as follows:

  • Markings and labels in graphite pencil or chalk on the inside of the fursuit. These are registration marks, pattern labels and fur direction notes. They are only visible on the inside of the suit and will not bleed.

  • Visible seams in short fur - I try to reduce these but fur is a fabric, which means it will seam naturally when sewn.

  • Minor asymmetry - my headbases are hand-carved which means that minor asymmetry may occur during the creation process!

  • Visible seams on the inside of the fursuit in unlined areas. This is just a natural part of sewing fursuits together!

  • Fabric glue texture on seams, on the inside of the suit only. I use permanent fabric glue to “lock” in and strengthen seams, especially hand-sewn details, smaller details, stripes and applique’s details.

Fursuits are handmade. “Professional” doesn’t mean made on a factory line! Please keep this is mind when you commission a fursuit.

THE COMMISSION PROCESS

Quote and Application

  • There are two application stages for my commissions - quoting, and application.

  • Quoting involves potential clients filling out a form and receiving a customised cost for their fursuit. Quoting is not necessary for commission application, but it is useful! Those who are just looking for a saving-up ballpark or who are just curious are free to apply for a quote.

  • Application is the process of actually applying for a commission slot. This step is necessary for getting a custom costume from me. You will fill out a similar form to the quote one, with a few extra questions.

  • My commissions are on application basis only, NOT first-come-first-serve. This means that every application is carefully considered when the form closes and it’s time to choose a commission slot.

  • The following is considered when choosing a character to make: Fursuit friendliness, how much I want to work on certain designs/features, how much I think the character will fit into my fursuit style.

  • I often get up to 5x more applications than slots available, so a rejection is absolutely nothing personal, and you can always apply again next time or apply to other makers as well!

  • If you have been accepted, you will receive an email with instructions on what will happen next!

Acceptance and Planning

  • Once you have accepted your commission slot, I will confirm your fursuit’s details and your quote with you. I will also, at this point, explain payment schedule/method, and anything else you would need to know about your commission.

  • Payment Plans will be discussed in detail at this point, if they are needed. Refer to my Terms of Service for more details about payment plans.

  • It is here that I will take your initial deposit, and you will be put onto my queue. Your queue order depends on payment order.

  • Now, I will plan your character (regardless of your point on the queue, I do this at the same time!). I choose out furs and fabrics and work with you to get your ideal look!!

  • Once the queue’s plans have been settled, I will purchase fur for the whole queue at the same time regardless on when your fursuit is being made.

  • If you are lower on the queue, you must wait for your turn to be made, as I only work on fursuits one-at-a-time. If you are at the top of the queue, though, it’s time to get made!

  • Updates are publically posted on social media and on Telegram, but queue members are welcome to message to ask for an update within reason if they are worried (messaging every day while you are on my queue is not within reason, for example. Asking for an update once every couple of weeks, however, is!)

Creation

  • When you have reached the top of my queue, it is your turn to be made. You will receive a more accurate ETA just before work begins.

  • I usually begin working on the head first, followed by handpaws and tails, followed by either accessories like wings, followed by bodysuits. I will sometimes mix things up if I am waiting for materials or waiting for approvals - I will keep you in the loop.

  • My clients are highly involved in their own creation process (except for if you have an Artistic Liberty fursuit). I check in consistently and ask for feedback at most stages, which means that I must ask that you keep on top of messages and respond to messages as soon as you can to keep workflow smooth. This is a team effort and your own eye is just as important as mine!

  • You will receive an update after every working day. My working hours at that time will be provided to you.
